Post on Blog

I read a post today on a blog that I have never visited before. I will not post the link because she used some rather vulgar language (there is not a rating system for blogs!) I kind of got the point of what she was trying to say. The post was about not being jealous of huge bloggers with tons of comments (Bakerella or Pioneer Woman anybody?) because everybody started out small.

Not only that, but what are you blogging for? I love, love, love comments. I would have to be dead to not enjoy feedback, especially of the positive kind. However, I really need to blog for myself. I need a place to record memories, flesh out my strange thoughts, and basically just see myself "in print"! I won't lie and say that I don't entertain thoughts that one day I will have 100+ comments. But then I remember all the blogs that I read, some only once and others more frequently, that I never leave a comment on. That doesn't mean that no one is reading it, it may be that they didn't really feel like they needed to leave a comment. Plus, I am a little unsure as to proper blog etiquette. I don't know if people will like me "creeping" on them! I guess I really should leave feedback, but truly I often have nothing nice to say. Sometimes it is because I am jealous, other times I may not agree. I'm guessing that there are a few people out there (mostly related to me) who read my blog and never comment.

Blogging makes me happy though. Even the days that I don't get any comments. I realize that I would have to put A LOT more effort into this if I wanted to build it into something that garnered a wider audience. But for right now, I am happy with what is, in essence, talking to myself!:)

  1. 1st - LOVE the Valentine's pics posted below. The kids are so precious, I can't get enough of them.

2nd - I too love blog comments, but I know there are people out there (like my mom) who never comment, but soooo enjoy reading the blogs.

3rd - Some people just want to keep up with you but don't necessarily have a lot to say (like distant family who enjoy the pics and family updates).

4th - The blogs that truly garner the most comments are either the controversial blogs, OR the ones where you've made or done something soooo cool the rest of us are jealous and have to share our envy with you :)

I love your blog. Keep writing. You're great at it, and when they're inspirational I feel like I've had a double helping of my devotional for the day, and we can all use more time in the Word, and learning about our Lord!

  2. Just realize my comment was practically a blog all on its own :)

  3. Blogs are a fun way to stay connected to the "little" things in life and to the "big" things, too. I really enjoy pictures, cute things the kids say, personal thoughts that cause me to stop and think my own thoughts, and of course I like the silly lists that just help us know each other a wee bit better.

So, keep on blogging because your mother likes it :)

PS: You know we all enjoy your "devotional" blogs.

  4. Clare I 3rd the motion on your devotions! But remember I was your first and biggest supporter:) I am with ya on doing the blog for yourself. I am considering doing a blog overhaul once we get back from Mom's. I want it to be a place that I can be me!

  5. Why do I blog? I blog for all my friends and family who aren't here to see what's going on in our lives. Plus, it's like a journal for us.... someday we can go back and look at what all we've done in life.
