Facebook Rant

I have a tendency to jump on the bandwagon-I don't want to miss out on anything fun. So, to that end I pulled up my Facebook page yesterday because several people had been talking about their pages lately. I started it back in March and did...nothing. Well, I have decided that it is a voyeuristic way to spy on everyone! I know it isn't really, but I thought it was so you could keep up with your friends and acquaintances. Not really! There is no way to sustain a conversation, and every comment that someone leaves, since part of one that is on their own Wall, you have no idea what they are talking about. It doesn't really help you to keep up with anyone. I know it is based on sociological principles, etc. That doesn't mean the concept works. It is supposed to show how we are all connected but really I think it just exemplifies our grown-up cliques! I don't know... maybe as my dad always said, I just think it is stupid because I don't understand it. Maybe I don't want to understand it, maybe I just like my blog!

  1. I totally get what you're saying. I too love my blog and it somehow feels more private because Facebook and MySpace are so popular. I did change my blog so Google won't automatically go to it if someone puts my name in - just a tiny measure of security for myself.

Everyone at RBC had a blog and I wanted to be in on it so I created one and invited my family to create one....and it worked! It's a ton of fun though keeping up with everyone's day-to-day things. It definitely makes me feel more connected to you and Robyn since we don't talk very often! And if your blog is like mine, many more people read it than comment on it. :)

  2. I'm glad to have more ammunition to use when my kids present the question for the hundredth time... "why can't I have a MySpace?" Though, I'm not really sure I want them to have a blog either. Your mom's blog made me decide to create one, too. So far, so fun.

  3. In Honor of You, my favorite sister, I deactivated my facebook account:) No really I agree with you I hadn't found it particularly useful nor did I keep up with it. I can control more with a blog and you know how I LOVE control:)Keep up the good reviews it inspires me! Love~Me

  4. I disagree! I recently got a facebook because a friend of mine had a very sick child in the hospital for a month and she was posting updates on her facebook. Since then I have found a dear friend from high school I have been thinking about, a church we are considering being a part of posts youth activities there, and I love to be able to post what I am thinking and write little blurbs on my friends' wall. Not to mention I love the fact that only the people who are my friends can visit my facebook and if you want to become my friend then you have to ask! Talk about CONTROL, I too love to have it! When I post pictures of my family I know not just anyone can access it. That makes me feel better. I hate lerkers, but I love to be one! :)
